Music Is The Universal Language

Music Is The Universal Language

Today’s BrightSpot!

“Music is the universal language of mankind.” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Want to know a sure way to reduce stress, alter your mood, increase your well being and lift your spirits? Listen to some music! Your choices are limitless, just get out of your head and get into the beat, the melody, the lyrics and the rhythm. There’s no way you can feel bad when a great set of head phones is replacing those troubling thoughts with the magic of music!

The day we met, Mary Ann and I formed an instant connection through our mutual love of music. Our bond was forged when she took the time to lovingly create a few CD’s of her favorite songs to share with me. When she sent this video about cows, I have to admit I was baffled. But these cows prove what I believe to be true; all creatures respond to and connect to the vibrational sounds of music.

Music plays a major and crucial role in our everyday lives. We hear a specific song or instrumental and are instantly transported back in time and place. Aware of it or not, we are always listening; in our cars, during work hours, in elevators and even while waiting on the phone. We depend upon music to soothe us when we are upset, to relax us when we feel anxious and to lift our spirits when we feel down. There is no easier way to change your mood then to tune into a rhythm that makes you want to dance or a melody that moves you to sing.

Just like the cows in this video, we all feel a strong attraction and an instant unspoken level of trust with musicians. Cows can’t sing or dance but something inside them tells them that music is something powerful to be enjoyed. It is the universal language with healing power to bring us all together in a heartbeat.

Unlikely Best Friends, Dog and Orangutan

Unlikely Best Friends, Dog and Orangutan

Today’s BrightSpot!

“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” Anonymous

We can’t always explain why we choose the friends we do. Take a look at these Unlikely Best Friends, Dog and Orangutan. Friendships are something we can’t always understand, all we know is that there is an instant attraction and a compelling reason to keep going back for more.

Who is your best friend? Did you ever think about what there is about this person or pet that makes them so special to you? Why not give it some thought today and make sure you stop to appreciate each of them!

I consider myself to be extremely lucky. I have several best friends and I love each of them for their unique qualities. My husband Robert, is my biggest cheerleader… He is my go to person for just about everything. I can depend upon Robert to tell me the truth as he sees it, and to never judge me. No matter how frazzled or crazy I may be, I know Robert always has my back and that’s a very safe feeling to have.

My friend Shelley is my oldest friend. We’ve known each other since we were 4 years old. Shelley and I have shared all our secrets and all of life’s challenges. She is a sister to me.

Sandy is a friend of my soul. We speak to each other on a level unmatched by anyone else in my life. We talk for hours about matters of the heart and soul. We have witnessed the growth of our spirits as we have transformed ourselves through many tests over many years.

My friend Heather, feeds my intellect and my heart. She always brings fairy dust by sprinkling words of encouragement and sending gifts that support and motivate me to strive toward greater self-expression and
creativity.

These are just a few of my favorite friends. There are others who bring me companionship and are a joy to be with. I hope you are lucky to have found a friend you can count on for whatever reason they have come into your life. It’s so important to acknowledge and appreciate the gift they are to us.

Just like these two unlikely friends who must be soul mates.

You Won’t Believe The Gratitude Dance

You Won’t Believe The Gratitude Dance

Today’s BrightSpot!

Feeling less than joyful today?

Take a look at how one man’s dream to create joy has already touched millions of lives. You Won’t Believe The Gratitude Dance! He has even recruited a sponsor to fund his project! Think about what you could create that would spread joy, to one person or to many. Remember that his dance began with baby steps and now look how great a dancer he is…..

This man and his dance inspire me to get up and dance, in other words to be an active participant not a bystander in life. He reminds me to be grateful everyday for everything and everyone that bring goodness into my life.

On the days I am feeling a little down, I know firsthand that the fastest way for me to feel better fast is to focus on something to be grateful for. How blessed am I to have a healthy body that moves without restriction or pain. How appreciative I am to do work I enjoy. Most important I look around at all people who love me who I love in return. That’s a gift I don’t ever take for granted. What is there for you to appreciate right now at this moment?

I know many people who keep a daily gratitude list. Honestly, I’m not one of them. Whether you decide to write down what you’re grateful for or not, I think all that matters is that we acknowledge our blessings to ourselves share our joyful energy with others. That’s contagious!

This video shows that with enough energy and guts, all dreams are possible and each of us can do our part to do something positive for the world. Enjoy!

My Blue Ribbon For Public Speaking

My Blue Ribbon For Public Speaking

Today’s BrightSpot!

When it comes to public speaking do you find yourself in a state of sheer terror?

Don’t worry, if the thought of getting up in front of a group turns your knees to jello, you’re not alone and there is hope. Did you know that the fear of public speaking ranks at the top of the list for most people? For some it’s right up there next to fear of death. Hard to believe but it’s that scary for some of us. And we are in good company. Mark Twain who was one of the most sought after authors and speakers of his time, struggled until he finally triumphed over this same fear.

I was one of those people who dreaded talking to a large group of strangers. I was fine one on one and in small intimate groups but the thought of standing at a podium was horrifying. My heart would race, my palms sweat, and my knees weaken. I never thought I would be able to stand in front of a group and speak, never dreamed I’d be able to look at their faces, connect with them individually and actually enjoy it!

If you are like me, I know you will relate to my story of how that all changed for me. I spent years afraid… on the day I won my Blue Ribbon…I finally broke through that barrier and released my fear of public speaking! My Blue Ribbon BrightSpot is my brightspot.
